What a reaction-time score actually tells you (and what it does not)

A reaction-speed test returns a number in milliseconds — but the score is about reflexes and focus, not your rank. Here is how to read it.

You ran a reaction test and scored 230 ms. Is that good? Bad? Enough to win a gunfight? The number is real, but it measures one narrow thing — your reflex from seeing a signal to clicking — and people read far too much into it.

What the test actually measures

The tool waits a random interval, turns the screen green, and times how long until you click. That is simple visual-motor reaction time. Human averages in a calm state land roughly in the 200–250 ms range, with faster results after warming up and slower results when tired, distracted, or on a high-latency display.

What it does NOT tell you

  • It is not your in-game performance — aiming, positioning, and game sense matter far more than raw click speed.
  • It is not your ping. Network latency is a separate, often larger, delay you cannot fix by practicing clicks.
  • A single trial means nothing; only the average across many tries is worth reading.

Use the score as a warm-up and a focus check, not a rank. If your average climbs after a few rounds, that is your brain settling in — exactly the state you want before a match.
